2018 Barsotti Vineyard Cabernet Franc

2018 Barsotti Vineyard Cabernet Franc

THE STORY: Barsotti Vineyard sits at 3000’ feet in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada range, farmed by the father-son team of Ron and Chuck Mansfield. The head-trained vines are planted in decomposed pink granite, truly rare soil types for the Foothills. The grapes were picked at first light on the 28th of September. I purposely let the fruit hang in the vineyard a bit longer this year to see what expression this vineyard would make with slightly riper fruit. The result is pure magic. Per usual, extremely low intervention in the cellar— ⅓ of the fruit was left cluster intact while the balance was destemmed but the berries not crushed. We lightly foot-stomped the one bin of fruit and let the native yeasts naturally ferment. With fermentation complete, we barreled down to twice used neutral French Oak barrels and let the wine age for 10 months. We could not be more pleased with the outcome.

TYLER’S TASTING NOTES: Vibrant pale purple in color. The complexity of this wine is apparent on the first whiff. Mixed berry aromatically oozes from the glass. Menthol and iron layer in. Plum and black tea finish. Soft tannins.
